”The start of a tradition”. My ass. So to speak. Well, what can you do? Too many big plans, too little time. More to come though.

The start of a tradition. Each friday I will pick ten great tracks that are sure to get you in the right weekend mood. So, the world premiere calls for some really top tracks, of course, here goes:

Spotify-link: Andynista Pure Friday 091127

The Go-Betweens – Love Goes On!
Great, great song with a lalala-chorus that just you just have to sing along to. Perfect start. The eighties were good, you know.

Julian Casablancas – Out of the blue
This one knocked me out from first listen and still does.

The Faces – Stay with me
Classic Rod. Makes me think of Robbie Williams. I think this is what he wants to be.

Blue Oyster Cult – In Thee
Such a gem. This is possably THE greatest song of the 70’s. And almost unknown. “I wrap myself in dreams, I wrap myself in solitude, but I wish I could wrap myself in thee…”

Tom Petty & Heartbreakers – Don’t do me like that
Simply party.

Nick Lowe – Cruel to be kind
This man is responsible for some cracking tunes. This is one of the best, for sure.

Echo & The Bunnymen – Villiers Terrace
Smashing early track from The 5th Best Band from Liverpool. Erm… let’s see… The Beatles… OMD… China Crisis…

Counting Crows – Rain King
Never cared to much for this band, but this song is absolutely amazing. In the fine american tradition started by John Fogerty and his bandmates.

Kings of Leon – Fans
Love this band. Love this song.

Blackfield – Once
Steven Wilson has changed my life. Well, not really. But I can’t imagine life without his music. Thankfully he’s one of the most productive musicians out there. I’ve probably heard more of Porcupine Tree and Blackfield than any other band the last couple of years.

PostHeaderIcon Whisky and LP’s

I love walking around town at night, peaking through windows. I know, I know. I just can’t help it. Last night I saw somebody who had a book shelf with tons of LP’s and what looked like a nice collection of whiskys. I live in a really small town, so I was like, who lives there!? I should know this person!

PostHeaderIcon Alone and Forsaken

I sing too, you know. This is actually a cover of  a fantastic song by country legend Hank Williams. Not that much country & western to my version, though. More like, well, I don’t know, but I’m howling away like Axl Rose on acid towards the end. I don’t know if that’s a good thing.

Like many of my songs this is not a finished version. It needs some polishing. I’ll get there.

ALONE AND FORSAKEN
(Hank Williams)

We met in the springtime when blossoms unfold
The pastures were green and the meadows were gold
Our love was in flower as summer grew on
Her love like the leaves now has withered and gone.

The roses have faded, there’s frost at my door
The birds in the morning don’t sing anymore
The grass in the valley is starting to die
And out in the darkness the whippoorwills cry.

Alone and forsaken by fate and by man
Oh, Lord, if You hear me please hold to my hand
Oh, please understand.

Oh, where has she gone to, oh, where can she be
She may have forsaken some other like me
She promised to honor, to love and obey
Each vow was a plaything that she threw away.

The darkness is falling, the sky has turned gray
A hound in the distance is starting to bey
I wonder, I wonder – what she’s thinking of
Forsaken, forgotten – without any love.

Here’s one I’m working on. Think I was influenced by The Knife, at least for the beat, which is a blatant Silent Shout rip off. And proud of it too. Enjoy.
